Teacher Workshops

The AWC will be hosting a Teachers' Workshop on the Palmerston North campus of Massey University and at the University of Auckland on Friday 21 May 2010. The focus will be achievement standards 90716 and 90717. Further information and online registration will be available soon.

International Biology Olympiad

The Centre supports this primarily through the IBO website and training and supporting students representing New Zealand at the International Biology Olympiad. New Zealand has been represented at the International Biology Olympiad for the past five years, and for each of these years New Zealand has performed better than the previous year! We are currently identifing those students to represent New Zealand in 2010. The team to represent New Zealand in Korea in 2010 is in the process of being identified. We wish all the participatnts well.

Presentations and Demonstrations


Children with tuataraThese are undertaken at the request of schools. Of particular interest has been the tuatara demonstrations. The tuatara are based at Victoria University of Wellington. To request a visit to your school please contact Sue Keall at susan.keall@vuw.ac.nz.

Allan Wilson DVD

In collaboration with notable producer George Andrew, a DVD has been produced that focuses on the life of Allan Wilson and his contributions to research, particulary to the theory of evolution. This documentary was aired on the Sky Documentary channel on 11 February 2009. If you would like a copy of this DVD to show to your class please contact Joy Wood.

Biotechniques DVD

At the request of teachers the AWC commissioned a DVD explaining and demonstrating biological techniques relevant to the NCEA curriclum. This informative DVD is available to school teachers on request. Please contact Joy Wood.
