Our researchers are international leaders in evolutionary biology.  They make cutting-edge technologies in Genomics and Biomathematics available to New Zealand and develop analytic and predictive models for ecology and evolution.

This combined approached has placed New Zealand at the forefront of molecular ecology and evolution and continues the spirit of Allan Wilson's pioneering work in tackling fundamental questions with novel analytical methods. 

The Allan Wilson Centre is the only Centre of Research Excellence focused on the natural environment.  We put our research into practice for the benefit of New Zealand, by:

• Undertaking research that provides new knowledge and insights into environmental challenges confronting us, especially global climate change, human health, and threats to biodiversity

• Supporting the New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy

• Developing mutually beneficial partnerships with Maori to undertake research of relevance and benefit to iwi
