Governance Board
The Governance Board has responsibility for leading strategic development for the Allan Wilson Centre. Members are selected with a view to providing a broad range of governance, legal, financial and management skills relevant to the Centre and are appointed to the Board for a period of three years.
Jim McLean (Chair)
Jim is an Auckland based company director who is currently Deputy Chair R J Hill Laboratories Ltd and Director Featherston Resources Ltd. Jim was previously an Executive Director of Genesis Research and prior to that, a partner with Ernst & Young. Jim is a Member of the Institute of Directors and is an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA).
Professor Carolyn Burns CBE, FRSNZ (Deputy Chair)
Professor of Zoology, University of Otago. Professor Burns is an aquatic ecologist with a keen interest in conservation. She is former President of the Royal Society of New Zealand Academy Council and current Chair, Governance Board for Genetics, University of Otago.
Professor Hugh Blair
Professor of Animal Science and Deputy Head, Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences, Massey University. Professor Blair is a quantitative geneticist with recent interests in epigenetics.
Emeritus Professor Des Cooper
Emeritus Professor of Biology, School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences, the University of New South Wales. Professor Cooper is a geneticist with interests in wildlife conservation and human reproduction.
Professor Jane Harding ONZM, FRSNZ
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Professor of Neonatology, The University of Auckland. Professor Harding is a Paediatrician whose research interests include nutrition, growth and development both before and after birth.
Rau Kirikiri
Rau has extensive Maori and science networks and experience in the assesssment of research proposals and quality assurance audits in both New Zealand and Australia. He is a consultant with RK Associates Limited and prior to this he spent 12 years as the Treaty Responsibilities Manager, Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research, increasing Maori engagement in science research generally.
